PHOTOS: Bomb Cyclone Brings Historic Snowfall to the Carolinas as the East Coast Ices Over in Powerful Nor’easter

A powerful nor’easter intensified into a bomb cyclone over the weekend, dumping historic snowfall across the Carolinas and coating large stretches of the East Coast in ice—just days after many communities were still digging out from a previous winter storm.

From snow-buried streets in Raleigh, NC, to wind-whipped coastal towns and ice-glazed highways farther north, the fast-moving system delivered heavy snow, dangerous wintry mix, and strong winds that transformed landscapes and disrupted travel from the Southern Appalachians to New England, as captured in the images below.
