Homeowners Hunker Down as Historic Bombogenesis Buries North East: Record Snow Totals Across the Map
Tens of millions of Americans woke up this morning to over a foot of snow along the East Coast.
Dubbed Winter Storm Hernando by The Weather Channel, the Northeast got its first glimpse of significant snowfall Monday, as much of the snow came down overnight in places from Boston to Pittsburgh.
Some of the hardest hit areas are still bracing for their full allotment of snow, as the storm enters its second day. When the storm started intensifying on Sunday evening, a bomb cyclone quickly morphed into a full-fledged blizzard, creating white-out conditions and making travel nearly impossible.
As of now, power outages have continued to spike along the East Coast and many cities have shut down. While the snow is continuing to fall in many places, here’s what we know about the totals so far.

Snow totals in New Jersey
As of Monday morning, snow was still pelting the entirety of the Garden State, and it’s here that residents are seeing the largest accumulations.
Freehold Township, NJ, reported 24.2 inches of snow from Winter Storm Hernando. In the wider Monmouth County area, this storm has left 9% of customers (approx. 28,000 homes/businesses) without power, according to PowerOutage.us.
Newark Airport, which ceased operations rather early Sunday, has reported 18.3 inches of snow thus far, though the flurries are still falling. In Bergen County, just outside of New York City, over a foot of snow has been reported in many cities, including Carlstadt, NJ, and Teaneck, NJ.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill had initially put out a travel ban across the state through 7 a.m. She upped that to noon Monday, given the increased snowfall.
"Please stay inside and stay safe," Sherrill said on X. "Give road crews the space they need to do their jobs."
Snow totals in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania
Local news outlets in Pennsylvania have reported that at least 18 inches of snow has fallen in the area, with Philadelphia hit particularly hard.
In addition, the National Weather Service says heavy snow banding will continue through late morning with snowfall rates of 2 inches or greater possible to continue, so that number could go up as the day progresses
Elsewhere, Lower Makefield Twp, PA, and Fairless Hills, PA, both just outside Philadelphia saw the highest snowfall accumulations thus far with 20.5 inches, while Tullytown, PA, brought in 18 inches.
Connecticut snow totals so far
Heavy snow has been falling since Sunday night as the nor'easter brought blizzard conditions to Connecticut that rivaled New Jersey.
Local forecasters expect more than 10-20 inches of snow is likely before it comes to an end Monday afternoon, with places like Bridgeport, CT, already reporting 16 inches of snowfall, and Norwalk, CT, 14 inches.
Washington, DC snow totals
After starting out as rain, clumpy wet snowflakes began falling Sunday afternoon in the DC area.
The nation's capital was spared a massive snow dump, with no more than 3-4 inches reported in most parts of Washington, DC. The American University reports the campus received 2.5 inches of snow.

New York City snow totals
The National Weather Service in New York state reports 15 inches of snow in Central Park in New York City, as well as at the city's John F. Kennedy International Airport, which has experienced hundreds of delayed and canceled flights.
This marks Manhattan’s most significant snowstorm in a little more than five years, since the 17.4-inch snowfall recorded between Jan. 31 and Feb. 3, 2021.
Out on Long Island, residents there saw the biggest snowfalls in the area with Quogue reporting 23.5 inches, with Islip right behind with 22.5 inches. East Meadows faired better in Nassau County with 11.8 inches, while places in Hudson Valley, like Alpine, saw just over a foot of snow.
